Project Ashray: Nurturing Emotional Wellbeing for Vulnerable Children

RCBHS and EmancipAction Foundation have collaboratively launched Project Ashray, a mental healthcare initiative aimed at providing essential counselling support, mental health services, and training to vulnerable children in Mumbai. .

Description

RCBHS and EmancipAction Foundation have joined forces to launch Project Ashray, a transformative mental healthcare initiative dedicated to supporting vulnerable children in Mumbai. This project is designed to provide vital counselling services, mental health support, and specialized training to children in need, ensuring they receive the emotional care and guidance necessary for their development. In alignment with the objectives of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, Project Ashray aims to foster emotional wellbeing, resilience, and holistic growth among children who often face significant challenges due to their circumstances. The initiative will focus on extending its reach to children residing in homes managed by the Children’s Aid Society, particularly the Additional Children’s Home and New Children’s Home, both located in Chembur, Mumbai. These homes play a crucial role in offering shelter and care to children in need, and Project Ashray will enhance these efforts by creating a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment where children can thrive emotionally and mentally. By integrating counselling, mental health services, and capacity-building programs, this initiative seeks to empower children with the tools and resources they need to overcome adversities and build brighter futures. With a comprehensive approach to mental health, Project Ashray emphasizes the importance of emotional stability as a foundation for overall development, helping these children become confident, self-reliant individuals. The project requires 10,50,000/- in funding for one year, which will go toward implementing these impactful interventions and ensuring that no child is left behind in their journey toward emotional and mental wellbeing. Through this initiative, RCBHS and EmancipAction Foundation are committed to making a lasting difference in the lives of some of the most vulnerable members of society, demonstrating their dedication to social responsibility and the welfare of children.

Problem Statement

Children residing in shelter homes, often coming from challenging backgrounds, require specialized support to heal from past traumas, develop emotional resilience, and reintegrate successfully into society. This initiative aligns with the objectives of the Juvenile Justice Care Act and aims to create a safe and nurturing environment that fosters their emotional well-being and holistic development.  All the children we work with in this program have been orphaned, trafficked, abused, abandoned or surrendered. Our team of trained trauma informed clinical psychologists provide weekly individual and group counselling to these children.

These children live in extremely vulnerable situations across India. With less than 1 psychologist for every million people in India, these children have no access to the right kind of trauma-informed care that they so desperately need
